The sequel to Ratcatcher is now out as an ebook, for Amazon Kindle and in all other formats via Smashwords. Delivering Caliban is darker, meaner and bloodier than its predecessor, and adds what I hope is an interesting psychological angle to the Purkiss story. All right, all right. Just stop flooding me with emails, okay? Two: getting ready a paperback version of Ratcatcher. Delivering Caliban will be out in mid-November as an ebook, and as a paperback some time before Christmas. The Severance Kill should appear in all formats by the end of the year. Feedback, criticism, stalking, death threats and offers of film contracts are, as always, most welcome. Well, some of them are. The sequel to my debut novel, Ratcatcher, will be published in November. Titled Delivering Caliban, it features the return of John Purkiss, scourge of rogue intelligence agents everywhere.

Darker, meaner and bloodier than the first book, it takes Purkiss in new directions: geographically, emotionally, and morally…. Stephen Leather, bestselling thriller author, has outed himself as a user of highly underhand and dishonest techniques in promoting his books on Amazon.

Leather and his practices are dirtying the reputation of authors, especially self-published authors like me. Sort of. A few years ago I was involved in some amateur dramatics productions.

I was no great shakes as an actor, but it was a lot of fun, particularly when I got to try out a new accent they included New York, Lancashire and London Cockney; the last was a success, I think, the first two less so. Bear in mind, though, I was strictly an amateur. Having grown up in South Africa, I have a finely tuned ear for a Saffrican accent.

But there have been some truly atrocious stabs at it in film and on television, by people who should know better. Write a product review. Showing of 11 reviews. Top Reviews Most recent Top Reviews. I decided to read this book on recommendation from someone. I have been reading more of John le Carre, William Boyd, and Charles Cumming - books which could be easily termed as literary espionage variety. When I started reading Ratcatcher, I got thrown years back to the era when I used to love reading action packed books in the same genre written by Robert Ludlum and others of the same ilk. It was indeed a pleasant change for me. The hero John Purkiss leaves the British secret service and starts working for a person who dedicates himself to bring to the book rogue agents. The story takes him to Estonian capital which is where the tale is set.

The book explodes from the word go and the reader is thrown into a vortex of well conceived action.

John Purkiss Series

Technology is very cleverly used in the tradecraft. The suspense is well crafted and the author does deliver a few surprises in the end. The hero is almost invincible. He exhibits extraordinary presence of mind and is knowledgeable — la Bond style - about almost everything from handling medical emergencies to missile technology. I just went with the flow and enjoyed the yarn with its regular dose of action.

Ratcatcher (John Purkiss 1)

The book is set in Estonia and action is around the retired agents and ex military from russia. Its starts off as a personal vendetta plot and then transforms to something much sinister and this transformation has been handled very well through the book. There are lots of surprises and keeps us thinking till the end.

Highly recommended read!!

This was downloaded on the ipad app and used on the kindly reader, got it for a huge discount. The download was a breeze. One person found this helpful. Non-stop action and a fast moving plot kept me on the edge of my seat. Great character development and just enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. I would recommend this book for serious readers of spy novels. Really is a thriller till end.

See a Problem?

Well researched with an eye on detail. Keeps the reader hooked till the last page. Eagerly waiting for the sequel. Just too good. Agreat read. Fast moving and interesting. Very enjoyable. Nicely written. A good thriller to read upon.
